The goal is to raise enough money to cover the costs of releasing the recordings on CD and iTunes (as well as other online distributors), and showcase these artists to their fans, bringing their music into the mainstream.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 31st, at the Tranzac Club, 292 Brunswick Ave, just South of Bloor St., between Bathurst and Spadina. This venue is familar to most of the artists, as many of them participate in the weekly Tranzac Jam on Saturdays, but this show will be held in the big room, with a full stage and big sound to showcase their talents in front of the audience.

We will be asking for $10 admission at the door, but this doesn’t only get you into the show, you get far more! If you provide your email address, we will keep you informed on the recording process throughout the sessions, including sneak peak audio and video performances from the studio, artist feedback on the compositions, notices for upcoming performances by each artist, and lastly, a very special rate for a copy of the CD release made possible by this and other fundraising events.

Bands attending the showcase:

Gordon’s Acoustic Living Room

Left 4 Dead

Big Fog

Individual artists performing at the showcase:

Chris Figgures

Elizabeth Meetoos

Gaye Zimmerman-Huycke

Jonathan Rudin

Nick Dziedzic

Sean King
and others…

Doors open at 7pm, and the show will continue until midnight, closing with an all acoustic set.

Midnight Sun, the debut album by Big Fog, showcases a unique Celtic fusion sound that blends traditional Celtic music with country, blues, and rock influences. The album features seven original compositions along with the band’s interpretation of traditional Celtic and folk songs, and was produced under the talented guidance of John-Marc Hamilton.

The origins of the band date back to 2004, under the name fiach le firead (ferret hunt). The initial band members featured Sean King (guitar, vocals, banjo, tin whistle), Terry Campbell (drums, percussion) and Rory Sinclair (bagpipes, guitar, vocals). The band adopted the name “Big Fog” in 2007 and now includes the additional talents of Brian Morgan (fiddle, guitar, vocals), Mike Dent (lead guitar, dobro, vocals) and Dave Hamilton (bass guitar, lead guitar, harmonica, vocals). The result is an ensemble of energetic and creative talents producing a range of music from haunting melodies to lively jigs.

In Celebration of The 3rd International Gathering of Clan Sinclair, Scotland, 2010

Crave Music was pleased to be involved in this diverse and inspiring collection of tracks, recorded over a four-month period in early 2010, featuring Rory Sinclair on a variety of bagpipes (Highland, smallpipes, electronic). His talent both as a musician and a producer yielded some astounding results on an ecclectic mix of music from traditional Scottish fare to more modern rock and roll. Utilizing many members from his casual band Gordon’s Acoustic Living Room, they participated on various tracks and came out with a product that will have you thinking twice about the capabilities of the bagpipe in modern music.

Over the past seven years, it has been my great pleasure to play in a band here in Toronto, which we call Gordon’s Acoustic Living Room. The band has indulged me as I brought pipe tune after pipe tune to try out – some Scottish and some not. When playing pipes with other instruments, rather than as a solo competitor or in a pipe band, the beautiful chords that are part of Scottish pipe music but merely implied with pipes alone, become manifest as the other players join in. This I love. Over time it started to dawn on me – indeed this is the seed of this collection – that there are many genres of music in the world that lend themselves to pipe solos if not also whole pipe tunes.
